Telemarketing Bill Passes

May 13, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Missourians might soon be able to tell many telemarketers their phone is off limits. In the last hours of this legislative session, the House approves the telemarketing bill and sends it to the governor. Representative Don Kissell of St. Peters tells colleagues his bill would create a DO NOT CALL and if telemarketers call anyone on the list, they will be subject to heavy fines. Who administers the list became a point of contention in the House. Several members believe the Secretary of State should maintain it, Representative Jewell Patek arguing that office is much better suited to the task than the Attorney General. The Attorney General will get jurisdiction over the list though, if the governor signs the bill.
