For the third time in six days, the Cardinals let the other team’s superstar beat them. Barry Bonds hit two home runs into McCovey’s Cove, the second one coming in the 8th inning off reliever Heathcliff Slocumb, giving the Giants a 4-3 win over St. Louis. Meanwhile, the Giants walked Mark McGwire three times. Over the weekend, the Cardinals lost to Cincinnati twice on Ken Griffey home runs. Edgar Renteria homered for the Cards yesterday in a losing effort. Andy Benes allowed three runs in seven innings, and left with the score tied at three. The Cardinals have lost two out of three in their last three series. They are off today before hosting the Dodgers this weekend.
