Winston Cup Race Coming to Kansas City

May 9, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Mark your calender, NASCAR fans, Rusty, Gordon, and the Intimidator are coming to Kansas City next September. Kansas Speedway, the new track being built just outside of Kansas City, will host a Winston Cup race on September 30th, 2001. Grant Lynch is the president of Kansas Speedway, and he says the track is very fortunate to land a Winston Cup event. The day before that race, on September 29th, the Busch Grand National drivers will race on the track. The Indy Racing League will also visit in 2001, with an IRL race scheduled for July 8th. NASCAR also added a race to its schedule at a track outside Chicago. The announcements leave little hope that a Winston Cup race will be scheduled next year at Gateway International Raceway near St. Louis, but Gateway officials say they remain optimistic about landing such a race in the future.
