Lawmakers Crackdown on Amusement Ride

May 8, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Deaths and injuries on major amusement park rides leads to a crackdown heading for the governor’s signature. The House has overwhelmingly approved the measure and sent it to Governor Carnahan. Representative Bill Skaggs of Kansas City sponsors the bill and tells colleagues it contains many provisions meant to head off accidents. Serious accidents on rides in Missouri prompted the bill, including a fatality at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City. The parent of a teen-age girl killed on a ride at Worlds of Fun spoke on behalf of the bill during legislative hearings.
