Symphony and Opera Theater receive grants

The largest single grants ever given to the St. Louis Symphony and the St. Louis Opera Theatre total four-million dollars. The Symphony gets two-and-a-half million. The Opera Theatre gets a million-and-a-half. The money is from the Ford Foundation. The Symphony will use the money to give free concerts in schools, prisons and retirement homes. The Opera Theatre will use its grant to strengthen training programs for young artists and to improve its facilities.
