Postage stamps honoring some of baseball’s top players were unveiled this morning at Busch Stadium. The stamps will go on sale for the first time at this summer’s All-Star Game in Atlanta. Three of the twenty players featured played many years in St. Louis, which is one reason the Postal Service chose to hold the unveiling at Busch Stadium. The three with St. Louis ties are Rogers Hornsby and Dizzy Dean, who starred for the Cardinals in the ’20s and ’30s, and George Sisler, who won two batting titles playing for the St. Louis Browns. The players featured on the stamps are part of the all-century team chosen last year. Players like Stan Musial and Bob Gibson are not on the stamps because a person must be deceased for ten years before being pictured on a stamp.
