Two more home runs, a National League record, and a sweep of the Phillies. A pretty productive Sunday for the Cardinals. Jim Edmonds and Mark McGwire each went deep against Phillie’s ace Curt Schilling, who was making his first start of the year, and the Cardinal beat Philadelphia 4-3 to finish off the weekend sweep. The Cards finished April with 55 home runs, tying the National League record for home runs in one month, which was previously set by the 1947 New York Giants. Darryl Kile gave up three runs over seven innings to improve to 5-1 on the season. Third baseman Fernando Tatis is about to go on the disabled list. He strained his groin muscle Saturday and could miss a month. Craig Paquette will play in his absence.
