Home Runs, Rain, Help Cards over Rockies

April 24, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

The Cardinals got home runs from Mark McGwire and Placido Polanco, and a little help from mother nature…. and beat the Rockies, 6-3. The game was shortened to 6 1/2 innings by rain. McGwire hit his fifth homer of the year leading off the 2nd, to give the Cards a 1-0 lead. Later in that inning, Polanco launched a grand slam, to give Andy Benes all the runs he would need. The victory was just the Cardinals second in seven games against the Rockies this year. The two teams finish off the four game series this afternoon. Darryl Kile will pitch against Pedro Astacio.
