A memorial to fallen firefighters is going to be put up near the intersection of Highways 54 and 70 in central Missouri. The Firefighters Memorial Foundation will spend 609-thousand dollars to put up a bronze silhouette of an exhausted, kneeling firefighter. The site is near Kingdom City. The Foundation says it picked the site because of the amount of traffic that will bring people to the memorial. A memorial wall also will be built. The names of 170 firefighters killed in the line of duty will be etched into it, with more added as necessary. The organization hopes to raise one-half million dollars for a museum, to be built later.
