The law adopted in 1992 limits legislators to eight years in the house and eight years in the Senate. Critics say that’s not long enough for people to get the experience they need to be effective legislators. The Senate has advanced a proposal setting the limits at 12 years. Senator John Schneider of Florrissant, the sponsor of the proposed amendment, wants a statewide vote as soon as possible. Another Senator calls term limits a “tragic mistake.” Schneider says they limit the citizens ability to vote for their choice of Representative or Senator. The Senate could send the bill to the House later this week.
