The sheriff of Cape Girardeau County says it’s hard to maintain high levels of performance with the high turnover he has among his deputies. Sheriff John Jordan tells the Cape Girardeau Southeast Missourian that in the last 15 months he has hired 14 officers…for a staff of 12. Although the county has increased salaries twice in recent years, the newspaper reports Cape Girardeau has the lowest salaries for sheriffs deputies among first-class counties.
