Former Reed’s Spring mayor ordered to prison

Former Reed’s Spring mayor Joe Dan Dwyer has been sentenced to seven years in prison, without parole, for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl…and for obstructing justice and trying to influence witnesses. Dwyer pleaded guilty last November to conspiring to have a 15-year-old girl travel from Manhattan, Kansas to St. Louis to engage in sexual activity. Two women also were charged. One has gotten two years for helping Dwyer obstruct justice. The other faces as many as 15 years in prison for taking bribes from Dwyer to influence testimony.
