Would you believe, the Cardinals are the most powerful team in baseball history. Ok, that’s probably a stretch, but the Cardinals hit four more home runs and beat Houston 8-7. They now have 20 homers in 7 games, more than any team in baseball history, breaking a mark previously held by the 1927 Yankees. Not bad company. Houston didn’t go quietly, scoring four times in the 8th to cut the lead to one. Then in the 9th, the Astros got the tying run on first with two outs. But catcher Mike Matheny threw out pinch runner Glen Barker trying to steal second, to end the game. Mark McGwire, J.D. Drew, Ray Lankford and Edgar Renteria all homered. Pat Hentgen pitched six innings, allowing three runs, for his second win. The Cardinals are 6-1. The Cards and Astros meet again tonight.
