Secretary of State Bekki Cook says Missouri residents who don’t want to be bothered at home need to send in their completed census forms right away. She says enumerators will begin going door to door in the next week or so to households that haven’t mailed in their forms. Cook’s also concerned about this year’s low response rate. She’s surprised that some Republicans are telling citizens to skip questions they don’t like. Cook says state officials are hoping for a return rate of 74-percent, but she’s doubtful the response will be that high. US Census Bureau officials have been hoping for a 70-percent return rate nationwide.
