Rick Ankiel was nearly unhittable, and the Cardinals put on another power display, dismissing the Milwaukee Brewers, 11-2. Ankiel pitched six innings, striking out ten and allowing three hits. And he got plenty of support. The Cardinals drilled six home runs, their most in a game since 1996. J.D. Drew, Mark McGwire, Craig Paquette, Jim Edmonds, Shawon Dunston and Edgar Renteria all homered. McGwire’s three-run shot in the first gave the Cardinals all they would need. It was Willie McGee Day at Busch Stadium. Before the game the Cardinals honored their long-time outfielder, who retired after last season. His teammates gave him a pickup truck. The Cardinals begin a seven-game road trip in Houston tonight. Pat Hentgen will pitch against Jose Lima.
