The latest effort to repeal Missouri’s motorcycle helmet law has advanced in the state Senate, but not without some baggage. Senator Marvin Singleton of Joplin has added provisions saying motorcyclists without helmets must wear seat belts and must take breathalyzer tests before going for rides. Singleton made those changes with tongue-in-cheek…but he is deadly serious in opposing the repeal of the helmet law. The repeal would only apply to people 21 and older. Singleton is the Senate’s only doctor. He says the repeal of the helmet law is as much a medical issue as it is a freedom issue.
