Opening Day at the K

April 7, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

A sellout crowd will pack Kauffman Stadium today to revel in the Royals 2000 home opener. And the Royals have given them reason for optimism, by bouncing back to win two straight and earn a split of their series in Toronto. Rookie pitcher Chad Durbin allowed just one hit in six innings yesterday, and the Royals erupted for nine runs in the sixth to pound the Blue Jays 9-3. The win puts the Royals at 2-2 heading into their home debut this afternoon against Minnesota. Mac Suzuki gets the call for Kansas City. The Twins are starting 21 year old Johan Santana, who has never pitched above Class A before this year.
