Attorney General Jay Nixon is suing Murphy Farms for allegedly polluting an area near the company’s operations in southeast Vernon County last June. Nixon also wants the company to drain and repair three lagoons filled with hog waste. He says the lagoons are in danger of collapsing and already have leaked into surface water in violation of state clean water laws. Nixon says heavy rains last June caused waste lagoons at Murphy facilities to spill over into three local creeks in Vernon County. He’s asking the court to fine the company fof those spills.
