A telemarketing bill has passed the House even though some representatives say the amendment process has rendered it useless. The bill seeks to crack down on telemarketing fraud and would create a DO NOT CALL list to which Missourians could add their names. But several industries have received exemptions. Representative Don Kissell of St. Peters attempts to convince Representative Chris Liese of Maryland Heights that the financial and insurance industries don’t need exempting, claiming telemarketers favor the DO NOT CALL list, because they don’t have to waste time with people who don’t want called. The House exempts financial and insurance telemarketers anyway and gives the bill approval. It now moves to the Senate which is working on its own version.
