Jobless Rate Up Slightly

April 1, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

State labor officials say cold weather and snow might have led to a higher unemployment rate in February…the jobless rate increased slightly to 2.6-percent in February, up from the 2.3-percent of January. Labor analyst Bill Niblack says the biggest changes were in education, as schools and colleges got back into the swing of things after semester breaks in January. Construction was down, largely due to the weather…manufacturing was down a bit too, due in part to layoffs in the aircraft and auto industries.
