Bond Resists Gas Tax Repeal

March 30, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Senator Bond says he refuses to let his colleagues jeopardize Missouri’s share of federal highway funding by trying to repeal the 4.3-cent gas tax passed in 1993. Senate leader Trent Lott and others have suggested the repeal to counter the high prices at the pumps. Bond says a better approach is for the administration to develop a national energy policy. Bond says cutting the federal gas tax would cost Missouri 127-Million dollars a year in highway construction money…and notes that fully half of Missouri’s roads are rated poor to mediocre.
