Former Bookkeeper Embezzled from Church

March 28, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

A Festus woman admits embezzling 325-thousand dollars from a Roman Catholic Church between 1989 and ’99. Federal prosecutors say Darlene King was a bookkeeper at the Church of Our Lady in Festus. King admits overpaying herself, forging the pastor’s signature and stealing cash donations made to the church. King faces up to five years in prison and a 250-thousand dollar fine for pleading guilty to one federal count of mail fraud.
