A deal has been cut with the St. Louis police department that lets 13 officers the department wanted to fire keep their jobs. Ten of the 13 had been charged with taking pay for work not performed. Chief Ron Henderson says the deal avoids costly trials that could have kept the police board tied up for the next year. The deal means the officers plead guilty to the internal adminstrative charge and take a demotion–and the pay cut that goes with it–to probationary patrolman for a year.
