The attorney general has filed a motion for summary judgement in a federal court case involving state limits on contributions from political parties to candidates. Spokesman Scott Holste says Attorney General Jay Nixon is asking the court to rule before the July trial so the state can resume enforcing the limits. Those limits are 11,175 dollars for statewide candidates, 5,600 for state senate candidates and 2,800 for house candidates. Holste says the law limiting contributions from parties to candidates was approved by bipartisan majorities in 1994. He says the attorney general hopes for a decision by the court before we hit prime fundraising time prior to the November elections.
