Electricity Tax Proposal Headed to Ballot

March 24, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

A group collecting signatures to place an issue on the November ballot wants to make sure local governments and school districts are not shortchanged if electric deregulation comes to Missouri. Michael Woolf, with Missourians for Electricity Tax Fairness, says out-of-state utilities currently enjoy a tax advantage over Missouri providers because they don’t have to pay local taxes that help support local governments and school districts. Woolf says Missouri lawmakers are considering legislation similar to the initiative petition he’s promoting. But he says it was necessary to file the initiatives before the legislative process was completed because of the May 7th filing deadline.
