Eight people have been told to pay more than one-million dollars to a Carthage man they beat to within an inch of his life. A judge in Jasper County says the eight people beat Leonel Cifuentes in 19-97 because he is Hispanic. Testimony showed the eight people were seeking revenge for the rape of a 14-year-old girl. They were told the person who did it appeared to be Hispanic. Police say they already had a suspect in custody when the eight beat and kicked Cifuentes.
