The state is replacing 13 overpasses on Interstate 70 in the St. Louis area…and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports none of them will meet state or federal height standards. The costs of the new overpasses will be 33-million dollars. Spokesmen for the trucking industry tell the newspaper the new overpasses will not provide adequate clearance for oversized loads, which are growing in number. A spokesman for the state transportation department says higher overpasses would cost more and would increase the length of time needed for construction.
