It’s going to cost the Adam’s Mark hotel chain eight-million dollars to settle the Justice Department’s racial discrimination charges. The chain also is settling a class action lawsuit filed by five black guests. Although HBE Corporation of Creve Coeur, which owns the hotel chain, admits no wrong-doing, it is going to give more than four million dollars to black guests and visitors at its hotel in Daytona Beach, Florida, who attended the Black College Reunion weekend last year. Another million-and-a-half will go to four historically black colleges for scholarships and internships on hotel management. Two-million will be spent on lawyers. And an outside monitoring group will be hired to make sure Adam’s Mark complies with the settlement.
