The Kansas City police department is paying 300-thousand dollars to the children of a woman killed last year when a speeding police car ran a red light and smashed into her pickup truck. An investigation showed the police car’s red lights and siren were not operating at the time. The officer driving the car has been charged with two counts of manslaughter. The 300-thousand dollars is the most allowed by law to settle a wrongful death lawsuit against a government body. A settlement is expected later with the family of the other person killed in the pickup truck–an 81-year-old man.
