March 21, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Pat Hentgen pitched five shutout innings in an 8-7 loss to the Phillies. The sharp outing was the first this spring for Hentgen, but the fifth straight by a member of the Cardinals’ projected rotation. Ray Lankford, Mark McGwire, and Shawon Dunston homered, but the Cards blew 7-0 lead when they lost three pop flies in the wind and sun.The Cardinals sent Luther Hackman, Dante Powell and Adam Kennedy to the minors. Kennedy had hoped to make the team as an infielder after performing well in a September call-up last year.
