The state senate fails to back a resolution calling on Congress to repeal the 4.3-cent gasoline tax it enacted in 1993. Senator Peter Kinder of Cape Girardeau says Congress approved the tax for deficit reduction, and now should repeal it since Congressional coffers are overflowing. But Senate President Pro Tem Ed Quick of Liberty says the issue needs to be discussed before senators vote on it. Kinder withdrew his proposal after it became evident his colleagues would not give their unanimous consent.
