A Missouri Senator hopes to expand a program that allows non-governmental agencies to accept government money to help the less fortunate. Senator Ashcroft hopes to persuade his colleagues to expand the Charitable Choice provision to all federally-funded social services. He says faith-based organizations that accept federal funding cannot preach to those they help. The Charitable Choice provision was first included in the welfare reform bill passed by Congress four years ago.
