Attorney general Jay Nixon hopes the Boone County Circuit Court orders a hot dog processor to clean up thousands of tons of casings used to make hot dogs dumped on a farm in southwest Boone County. Nixon is suing Kraft Foods, which does business locally as Columbia Foods Company. He says the spent casings are not biodegradable, and he wants the court to order the company to clean up mess near the Eagle Bluffs Conservation area. Additionally, Nixon says the company applied for and received state tax refunds for supposedly recycling the casings. He wants the court to order the company to pay back those refunds and to assess penalties against the company for violating state solid waste and clean water laws.
