Missouri Chamber of Commerce officials say Missouri should look to Arizona to see the dangers of a public campaign finance proposal. The group “Missouri Voters for Fair Elections” wants to establish a $13-Million fund available for candidates who agree to campaign finance limits. The money would come from an increase in the corporate franchise tax. The chamber brought Arizona lawyer Lisa Hauser to Jefferson City to compare the efforts in her home state with those here. Hauser is leading the fight to repeal the Arizona law. She says the Missouri proposal mirrors the one there and will hurt not only corporations, but also consumers who ultimately will pay for the increase in taxes.
