Fears that raffles and sweepstakes run by Missouri charitable and church organizations could degenerate into scams lead to a call for regulation. Missourians legalized raffles and sweeptstakes for churches and charities a few years ago. But the legislature has never approved laws regulating those events. Moniteau County Senator Larry Rohrbach says it’s time that happened. Rohrbach says prosecutors can’t do anything about runaway raffles and sweepstakes because there are no legal standards for them. He urges the legislature to take action before operators of those events start playing games that turn customers and parishoners into victims.
