A proposal has been made at the capitol to take teacher certification away from the state board of education. The senate education committee has been told it would be better to have a special commission made up of school officials deciding who should teach. Supporting the idea is lobbyist Bob Quinn with the Missouri-National Education Association, which has tried this idea before, and has failed. Opponents say it would be dangerous to have the certifying done by a commission made up of members of organizations that might have their own agendas.
