Five days ago, top-ranked Cincinnati crushed the Billikens by 43 points. But today, the Bearcats lost their best player, and SLU won a stunner, 68-58. Kenyon Martin, the top candidate for national player of the year, left the game early with a broken leg. SLU’s Justin Love says that changed the game, allowing the Billikens to drive to the basket without fear. Love scored 25 points for the second straight day, but he had plenty of help in other areas. Most notably from Justin Tatum and John Redden who played brilliantly on the defensive end. The Billikens held Cincinnati without a field goal for a stretch of nearly ten minutes in the second half, and SLU drained 10 of 12 free throws down the stretch. SLU is two wins away from earning an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament, and plays Tulane Friday at 4:30.
