It’s been more than a year since Missouri voters banned cockfighting andbear wrestling, but the legal fight continues. Missouri votersoverwhelmingly approved Proposition A banning cruelty to animals. But the United Gamefowl Breeders Association argues the measure as itappeared on the ballot was unconstitutional because the title contained morethan one subject. But assistant attorney general Gary Gardner says the supreme court shouldnot be hearing the case to begin with because the lower court lackedjurisdiction to consider the matter. He says the gamefowl breeders shouldhave challenged the referendum before it appeared on the November 1998ballot, not after the election.
