The Royals lost to Toronto, 3-2, but they WAY they lost invokes some bad memories. Kansas City got a good outing from starter Jay Witasick. He allowed just one hit in three innings. But then, invoking nightmares of last year, the bullpen failed the Royals. New Closer Ricky Bottalico gave up 3 runs and four hits in one inning of work. Witasick and Carlos Beltran both have signed new deals, meaning all 63 players in Royals camp are under contract. The Royals made a trade, getting backup catcher Greg Zaun from Detroit for a player to be named. Kansas city faces Cleveland today.
