The state Senate thinks bigger fire departments should be able to donate their used, but usable, trucks to smaller fire departments without worrying about liability issues. The Senate has approved Senator Sidney Johnson’s bill clearing the way for those donations. The trucks would have to be workable, and be safe. Officials from smaller fire departments and rural fire districts have told the legislature they have trouble getting the equipment they need because of limited finances. They say this bill will let them upgrade their abilities to fight fires.
