William Jewell faces elimination in NAIA baseball tourney

Will Locante struck out a career-best 14 in seven innings, allowing just one hit, and Cumberland belted three home runs, as the fifth-ranked Bulldogs defeated William Jewell, 11-1, on Thursday night in the 2011 McDonald’s NAIA Championship Opening Round here at Brooks Stadium.

William Jewell takes first round NAIA baseball game

David Smith collected three hits and scored three runs and Jamison Miller tossed eight strong innings, leading William Jewell to a 15-1 victory over Bellevue University in the opening game of the 2011 McDonald’s NAIA Championship Opening Round on Thursday here at Brooks Stadium. With the victory William Jewell advances to play Cumberland University tonight at 6:30 p.m.

William Jewell men’s soccer advances to semifinals

The William Jewell College men’s soccer team defeated University of Science and Arts (Okla.) 3-1 to advance to the semifinals of the 2010 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Tournament in Orange Beach, Ala. This marks the second trip to the NAIA semifinals in the last five years (2006 and 2010) for the Men’s Soccer team.

William Jewell women’s soccer advances at NAIA’s

Sarah Williams’ unassisted goal at the 28-minute mark was all that 13th-seeded William Jewell needed to defeat Kansas Wesleyan 1-0 in the second round of the 27th Annual NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship at Jack Allen Complex Monday in Decatur, AL.

The Cardinals push their record to 16-2-2 and advance into the quarterfinals, where they will face the winner of the No. 5-seed Martin Methodist (Tenn.) and Baker (Kan.) match Wednesday at 10 a.m. CST.

William Jewell had eight players take a shot on goal to finish with 11 in the contest. Kansas Wesleyan’s offense was limited with just six looks, including three by Kaitlyn Hamersky. The Cardinals outshot the Lady Coyotes 21-15. William Jewell’s netminder Kelli Sontag registered six saves.

William Jewell’s season ends in NAIA baseball

The William Jewell College Baseball team had its 2010 season come to an end on Thursday night with a 9-6 loss to Lee University (Tenn.) in the opening round of the NAIA Championship in Cleveland, Tenn.

Lee University jumped out to a 6-1 lead over the Cardinals before Jewell rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth. Lee answered back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and added one more in the seventh to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Tyler Harrison and Freddie Adamson lead the way for Jewell with two hits and two rbi’s respectively. Pitcher Mo Sckaer took the loss for William Jewell after working two innings of relief.

The loss closes the Cardinals 2010 campaign with a 41-15 overall record.
