Mizzou adds another recruit for 2012 class

The Missouri football program has added Brandon Holifield of Tallahassee, Fla., to the 2012 recruiting, as announced today by Head Coach Gary Pinkel. Holifield is a 6-foot-5 inch, 215-pound tight end from Godby High School, where he has been a standout in both track and basketball. He’s only played football during his senior year at Godby, and he was limited in his amount of playing time as a senior due to a groin injury.

Holifield handled kickoffs and punts for Godby, and he had a long punt of 60 yards, while he consistently put kickoffs in the endzone. He is currently a starting power forward on Godby’s basketball team, which has been ranked #1 in the state for much of the season, and he previously has placed 3rd in the state in the high jump, where he has a personal best mark of 6-foot-11 inches.

Holifield chose Mizzou over Miami, Fla. and Rutgers, and also had interest from Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt, among others.

Alden outlines changes coming to Mizzou

In a letter posted to fans on the Tigers website, Missouri Athletic Director Mike Alden announced several changes that will begin taking place as the school makes the transistion to the SEC.

Among the highlights of the letter…ticket prices across the board will be going up except for students and faculty. The increase will bring ticket prices right in the middle of the pack in the SEC. Fans will no longer be able to leave and re-enter the stadium during the game. The field will get a new artificial playing surface. It was time. More of the black rubber was starting to show through than any of the green.

The team itself will also unveil a new look. The university has been working with Nike on updating the uniforms. Judging from Alden’s comments, it sounds like the block M on the helmets will be gone.  The new uniforms will be worn during the team’s spring game on April 14.

Former Mizzou coach Mike Anderson says he’s still pulling for Missouri.   “Those kids are part of my family. They will be for the rest of my life. Obviously they were hurt and even when you talk about some of the fans. Why? When I got there, there was not a lot of empathy about the program. Now there are feelings about it and I understand that. But I’m so excited for those guys. They’re going to do great things.”

Marcus Denmon led the third ranked Missouri Tigers with 17 points, as five players scored in double figures in an 83-65 win over Oklahoma State, Wednesday night at Mizzou Arena. The victory extended the school record of 101 for Missouri’s four-man senior class,  of Denmon, Kim English, Ricardo Ratliffe and Matt Pressey

The Tigers finished the night shooting 53%, but for most of the second half, that percentage was around 63% as the Tigers used a 23-4 run over a nine minute stretch in the first half to put the game out of reach early.

Ratliffe and Dixon both had 15 points and English and Phil Pressey scored 13 each. Dixon made all six of his shots in the first half.  The Tigers also outrebounded OSU 37-29 and Kim English did a great job defensively on Le’Bryan Nash, who lit Mizzou up for 29 in the first meeting. Nash finished with 11 points on 5 of 11 shooting.
