Do Mizzou fans have faith in Haith (PODCAST)

Haith (l) seen with booster Nevin Shapiro at a fundraiser for Miami

While Miami deals with their own issues on a bigger level after Yahoo Sports broke the football booster scandal, Mizzou fans are talking about what this means for the Tigers basketball program and the future of new head coach Frank Haith who was pinpointed as having knowledge of an alleged payment to one of his basketball players.

Joining me is my colleague who contributes to the Missourinet, Manny Haley. We talk about how Mizzou should move forward? How Frank Haith should move forward and is it possible for Haith to remain as the Mizzou coach?

Sara Evans to sing Anthem at Mizzou-Nebraska game

Sara Evans She’s like a dream come.  A Missouri girl who not only has stunning good looks and an awesome voice, but she can talk sports.  Meet Sara Evans on my Press box Podcast .  When Missouri hosts Nebraska on Thursday, October 8 th , the New Franklin native will return to Columbia, where she got her start in the music business by singing the National Anthem.

You’ll hear clips of her warming up for her appearance at the 2009 All-Star Game in St. Louis when she sang a give me goose bumps, raise the hair on your neck rendition of God Bless America .

She’s excited about coming back to Mid-Mo and she talks about why singing the National Anthem is one of the hardest things to do.  Plus, I also ask her some behind the scenes questions about how she gets ready for a performance and if it similar to a way an athlete gets ready for a big game.  I also asked her a question I have wondered for a long time…not just about Sara, but all singers…what do you do when you’re on stage and nature calls?

She’s even changed her husband Jay Barker, a one-time national championship quarterback for Alabama into a Mizzou fan.  Finally, Sara and I perform a duet…or in my case a solo and a half.  Enjoy this visit with a down home girl from Missouri.

Make sure you check out her upcoming tour dates and pick up her Greatest Hits CD .  Get ready for Thursday with a pre-game warm up from Sara.

Hold the phone! Time to do the right thing

The Missouri athletic department sold 25 cell phones at a surplus auction this summer.  Mike Bellman of Columbia paid $190 for the phones, then found out information wasn’t deleted like text messages, contact numbers and e-mails from people like Gary Pinkel, Mike Anderson and Mike Alden.

Now Bellman wants $3,000 as he tries to sell them as a collector’s item off eBay.  Bellman would require the buyer to sign an affidavit pledging that the information in the phones would not be used to embarrass the university.  He did not accept the University’s offer to refund the phones or allow them to erase the info.

This goes back to a story that was in the Columbia Daily Tribune from Janese Heavin.  I’ve got a big issue with this, but try to see both sides of every story.  I bring in my buddy Steve Walsh to talk about this story and his analogy is perfect and in the end we both think Bellman needs to give the phones and/or the information back to the University without trying to profit off of it.

Rams Vobora suspended

David Vobora of the St. Louis Rams has been suspended without pay for the team’s next four games for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.  Vobora’s suspension begins immediately.  He will be eligible to return to the Rams’ active roster on Monday, October 26 following the team’s October 25 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Vobora, was the NFL’s "Mr. Irrelevant" back in the 2008 draft when he was selected with the last pick by the Rams.  Vobora was also featured on one of my Pressbox Podcasts after he was selected.

In a statement released by the Rams, head coach Steve Spagnuolo said, "Dave’s situation is unfortunate, he has been a vital part of our team, and we are disappointed that we will be without him for the next four games. However, we respect the League’s decision in this matter."

I’m talking Rams football with Cheeseheads

This week on my podcast the tables are turned as I am the one who gets interviewed.  Justin Hull, who hosts the "Home Stretch" on WSCO radio in Green Bay/Appleton had me on his show to preview the Rams and Packers.

Justin is a great guy and does a great job on his show.  In addition to breaking down the game, I also provide my two sense on why I think the NFL at times is overrated.

Enjoy.
