The Major League Soccer SuperDraft was yesterday. Former St. Louis University star Brad Davis was selected by the New York/New Jersey MetroStars with the third overall selection. Fellow SLU product Dipsy Selolwane was also selected in the draft, he went to Chicago in the third round. The Kansas City Wizards selected seven players during the event – the first of which was forward O’Neal Peart who went in the third round (32nd overall).
Wizards Sign Lassiter and Vermes
The Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer have signed forward Roy Lassiter and defenseman Peter Vermes to multi-year deals. Lassiter became the first player to reach the 200-point plateau for a career last season while with K.C. Vermes is 5th all-time with 171 games played.
Wizards Win In Colorado
Chris Klein, Gary Glasgow and Roy Lassiter all scored to support solid goaltending from Tony Meola as the Kansas City Wizards beat Colorado 3-2 on Sunday. Meola played in his first game since June 9th and made five saves. The veteran netminder had been sidelined by a slightly torn abdominal muscle. Wizrads are just five points away from clincihing a MLS playoff birth.
McKeon named MLS All-Star
Kansas City Wizards midfielder Matt McKeon has been named as a reserve for the MLS West All-Stars. The All-Star game is Saturday afternoon in San Jose. This will be McKeon’s second straight All-Star appearance. He’s played in every minute of every game for the Wizards this season, scoring five goals while adding an assist.
Wizards Drop Tough One to Chicago
The Kansas City Wizards dropped a 1-0 decision to the Chicago Fire last night in their second game of the U.S. Open Cup. The Fire scored the only goal of the game in the second minute of stoppage time as Hristo Stoitchkov beat Bo Oshoniyi to give the Fire the win. Kansas City returns to MLS action on Saturday as they face the Dallas Burn.
