Golfers withstand heat in opening round of women’s amateur championship

Temperatures at Bellerive Country Club hovered at 97 as the MWGA Women’s Amateur Championship began it’s first round. Defending Champion Ellen Port has a two shot lead over last year’s runner up, Drury Senior Katrina Choate.

McCall Christopher of Indiana State is in third place with a 74. Kayla Eckelkamp of Maryville University shot a 75 to finish round one in fourth place. Missouri State University senior Catherine Dolan finished with a 77 to tie Kelli Kirchoff of Wentzville for fifth place.

Missouri finishes second in junior girls golf championship

The Junior Girls Four State Championship was played June 27 – 28th at Beatrice Country Club in Beatrice, Nebraska. Missouri’s Junior Four State Team met Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas in a two day team event. Missouri’s team has won the event five out of the last six years, but ran into a powerful Nebraska Team this year. Danielle Lemek of Doniphan, Nebraska shot a 75-71-146 to win medalist honors for the third year in a row. Nebraska’s history of Junior Four State titles include 2000, 2003 and 2009. Missouri has seven titles since the competition began in 1988 and was defending champion.

Down to the quarterfinals in Mo. Amateur Golf Championships

The round of 16 continued at Boone Valley Golf Course as the Missouri Amateur Golf Championships widdled down the match play field 8.

The first match was between defending champion, Brad Nurski, and division I All-American, Jace Long of the University of Missouri. It went back and forth all day, Jace won the 17th hole with a par to go, 1-up. Both Jace and Brad haved hole 18, giving Jace the victory.

Pat Riordan and Steve Groom went to 19 holes. Riordan won the match, 1 up. Skip Berkmeyer had a great game, shooting 6 under after the first 9. He won 6 & 5 over T. J. Sweet.

Tomorrow Quarterfinals begin at 8:30 with the match-up of Jace Long and Carr Vernon.

Missouri prepares to defend Jr. Girls Golf Championship

The Junior Girls Four State Championship begins Monday, June 27th at Beatrice Country Club in Beatrice, Nebraska. Missouri’s Junior Four State Team will meet Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas in a two day team event. Missouri’s team has won the event five out of the last six years, and is sending a stellar team to compete again this year. The team will be in Beatrice on Sunday, the 26th for a practice round, and a special tour of the Memorial Stadium – home of the Nebraska Cornhuskers hosted by the Nebraska Junior Girls Four State Team.
