Chiefs TE Pope saves a child

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Leonard Pope saved a six year old boy from drowning in a swimming pool. Had the NFL not had the lockout, Pope would have been in Kansas City attending to OTA’s. Last weekend he was a hero.

He was at a party at a friend’s house when he heard his friend screaming that her son was drowning in the deep end of the pool. Pope was the only person at the party who knew how to swim and jump in clothes, wallet, phone and all to save the little boy.

Pro Bowl full of mistakes

I’m not sure this Pro Bowl was a display of fine skills, but more of a comedy of errors as the NFC used six AFC turnovers to their advantage for a 55-41 win on Sunday.

The NFC jumped out to a 42-0 lead before the AFC ever got on the board, which came from Chiefs’ running back Jamaal Charles who scored on an eight yard run. Phillip Rivers, Peyton Manning and Chiefs’ QB Matt Cassel were all picked off in the first half including a perfect pass by Cassel right into the hands of Vikings’ CB Antoine Winfield.

Chiefs add Thomas to coaching staff

The Kansas City Chiefs hired hall of famer Emmit Thomas as their defensive backs coach. The guy knows a little something about playing in the secondary. As a player, Thomas is the Chiefs all-time leader with 58 interceptions.

Chiefs and Rams blacked out

The Chiefs and Rams have been so bad this season that I’m thinking of just combining their stories together for the rest of the season. I just haven’t been able to get myself excited about watching much of the NFL season until last night when I saw Indy and Jacksonville. What have I been missing…teams that can actually throw the football!

Haley says cutting LJ isn’t “any one thing”

In a press release posted on their website Monday morning, the Kansas City Chiefs announced that they have released running back Larry Johnson who was set to return from his suspension. Johnson’s latest episode involved him bashing the Chiefs’ head coach Todd Haley on his twitter page. He also used a gay slur on that account and in the Chiefs locker room.

Todd Haley spoke this afternoon and commented on the situation.  Haley talked about  this not being about  any one incident that got him released.  Haley says he will look at himself and his staff for failing to get the best out of Johnson.  Haley was asked if the team been better off without Johnson since he was suspended two weeks ago?  Haley also stated this had nothing to do with Johnson closing in on being the Chiefs all-time rushing leader?

Todd Haley on Larry Johnson’s release

According to the Chiefs website, in 75 games (55 starts) with Kansas City, Johnson rushed 1,375 times for 5,996 yards (4.4 avg.) with 55 touchdowns. He also had 151 receptions for 1,369 yards (9.1 avg.) with six TDs.  His career with the Chiefs ends with 30 100-yard rushing games and also added two 100-yard receiving games.  He was just 75 yards away from becoming the Chiefs’ all-time leading rusher.

Johnson established an NFL single-season record with 416 rushing attempts in 2006 when he set a franchise single-season mark with 1,789 rushing yards. He originally entered the league as the Chiefs first-round selection (27th overall) in the 2003 NFL Draft out of Penn State.
