MIAA women’s basketball update from 3/1

No. 1 seed Washburn used a 23-0 run in the first half to erase an early 18-7 lead by No. 8 seed Missouri Western, and the Lady Blues did not relinquish the lead en route to a 80-63 victory Thursday afternoon in the first round of the MIAA Centennial Women’s Basketball Championship at Municipal Auditorium.

Shaquanda Wiggins recorded a double-double, scoring 22 points and pulling down 11 rebounds, as No. 4 seed Central Missouri pulled away to defeat No. 5 Fort Hays State, 73-61, in the first round.

Arriana Walker set an MIAA Women’s Basketball Tournament record with 39 points, and added nine assists and seven rebounds to lead No. 7 seed Lincoln past No. 2 seed Pittsburg State, 83-77.

Central Missouri names Port as first ever women’s golf coach

The University of Central Missouri announced today that Chris Port will be the first head coach of the Jennies golf program when they begin play next year.  “Chris is an excellent teacher of the game and I believe will be a great coach to begin the women’s golf program at Central Missouri” said UCM Athletic Director Jerry Hughes.

Mules lose on last second heartbreaker

Brent Friday’s bucket with three seconds left gave the Central Oklahoma Bronchos a 72-71 win over the Central Missouri Mules on Tuesday night at the UCM Multipurpose Building. The loss was the third straight for the Mules and second in a row on a last second shot.

Mules’ wrestling falls to Division-I SIU-Edwardsville

University of Central Missouri Mules Wrestling had a tough night on the mats in Edwardsville, Illinois Thursday night, falling to the Division-I Cougars 33-12.  The Mules lone winners were Ty Balty (Rogersville, Mo.) at 125 pounds and Eric Mateo (St. Robert, Mo.) at 133 pounds, both winning by forfeit. Complete results are listed below.

The Mules return to the mats this Sunday, hosting the annual Roger Denker Open at the UCM Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg. More than 150 wrestlers are expected to compete Sunday, including athletes from Division I schools Missouri, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

Mules trip up another ranked team

The Central Missouri Mules built a big first half lead then withstood a late Northwest Missouri rally to down the 24th-ranked Bearcats 63-60 on Wednesday night at the UCM Multipurpose Building. The win was UCM’s sixth straight against the Bearcats and the second consecutive win over a ranked opponent.

Central Missouri (9-4, 5-3 MIAA) used hot shooting and a stifling defense to race out to a 14-0 lead by the 13:27 mark. The Mules made their first three field goal attempts and forced turnovers on five of Northwest Missouri’s first six possessions.
