Billikens building NCAA resume with win at St. Joe

Cody Ellis scored a game-high 20 points, which included five second-half 3-pointers, as the Saint Louis Billikens rolled to a 72-60 victory at Saint Joseph’s Wednesday night at Hagan Arena.  The win was the Billikens’ third in a row and their sixth in the last seven games. They move to 19-5 overall and 7-3 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. SLU remains a half-game back of league-leader Temple (7-2 in the A-10) in the league standings.

Ellis’ career-high-tying 20 points came on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 6-of-9 from 3-point range. Five of his 3-pointers came at a crucial time in the second half when the game was still in doubt.  The Billikens as a team shot 10 of 20 from past the arc.

Missouri holds off Oklahoma

Despite the Oklahoma Sooners hitting just nine of 23 from the free throw line, it was their final miss of the night that led to a chance for OU to tie the game, but a three point attempt from Steven Pledger went off the side of the rim giving the fourth ranked Tigers a 71-68 win.

Romero Osby was fouled in the closing seconds and put on the free throw line with his team down by three. After missing his first attempt, Osby was forced to miss his last attempt. It came off the rim back towards him and was tipped out to the right wing where Pledger had an open look as time expired. It was a hard fought win for the Tigers, coming off their emotional win on Saturday against Kansas.
