Cardinals come up short in Houston

Jose Altuve put Houston in front with a three-run homer in the second Friday and the Astros fought off St. Louis 5-4 to win their fourth in a row.

All of the runs were scored in the first three innings, with the win going to Lucas Harrell (2-2). He survived 5 1/3 innings while giving up four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. [Read more...]

Seventh inning dooms Chen, Royals

Derek Jeter finished off a four-run seventh with a two-run homer Friday, propelling the New York Yankees to a 6-2 victory over Kansas City.

Both teams scored twice in the first inning and it remained a 2-2 contest until the Yankees broke things open with their big seventh inning. [Read more...]

Royals win third straight

Mike Moustakas drove-in the go-ahead run as part of a two-run eighth inning and the Kansas City Royals edged the Minnesota Twins, 7-6, in the first of a three-game series at Target Field on Friday.

Moustakas also scored a run and Billy Butler cracked a two-run homer among his two hits and three RBI, while Alex Gordon added a two-run long ball and scored three times for the Royals, who have won three straight since dropping 12 in a row. Cards pound Brewers

Jon Jay and Skip Schumaker each had three RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals pounded the Milwaukee Brewers, 13-1, in the opener of a three-game set at Busch Stadium.

Matt Holliday and Matt Carpenter knocked in two runs apiece as the Cardinals earned their second straight win.

Jake Westbrook (3-1) allowed one run on seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts over seven innings to earn the victory. [Read more...]

Lynn tosses Cardinals to another win

Lance Lynn limited Pittsburgh to a run on four hits in seven innings Friday and lowered his ERA to 1.42 in bringing St. Louis a 4-1 win over the Pirates.

Lynn has won his first three starts, giving up a total of three runs in those appearances. He struck out four and walked one before leaving with his team in front by a lone run. [Read more...]
