Missouri State Capitol

The Missouri Capitol is widely recognized for its architectural elegance and artistic excellence. The sculpture and statuary that decorate the outside of the building and the sculpture and paintings that decorate the interior make Missouri's Capitol unique.

Missourinet New Director Bob Priddy and art professor Jeff Ball of Adrian (Michigan) College are co-authoring a book on the construction and decoration of the Capitol.  The book is due for publication in 2004.

Construction Images
Time-lapse photo display (:45)
Jefferson City photographer Thomas G. Cooper carried his heavy glass-plate camera to the top floor of the Missouri Supreme Court building every two weeks during the construction of the present Capitol. Most of the photographs were re-discovered in the 1980s in some boxes in the Capitol basement. The photographs and the records are now in the care of the state archives, which provided us with these images. More photographs...
